‘A is for...’

A collaboration with performance artist, Another Adele, performed once only at Manchester Art Gallery for the launch of Wonder Women Festival 2017, curated by Instigate Arts. The work was borne out of my friendship with the artist following a series of workshops we shared which focused on LGBT+ artists and recovery (which itself resulted in this documentary).

Adele and I formulated an idea for a performance piece that would allow Adele to revisit multiple events of her past and their deep emotional and physical impact. To a soundtrack of herself reciting a litany of ‘A’ elements (alcohol, ageing, Alison, anger, alcohol), the artist offered up items that were symbolic and literal (apples, football imagery, portraits of her painted by her wife Alison), to give context to a deeply effecting movement-based performance that hinted at ritual, life-modelling, vulnerability, hysteria and recovery.
